FOREST, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Lacrosse team placed four student-athletes on the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) All-Conference Teams as the league announced its yearly awards on Tuesday. Junior Rachel Johnsen was the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Johnsen, a junior from Laurel, Md., shined both on and off the field for Randolph-Macon. In the classroom, Johnsen maintains a 3.89 grade point average as a double major in Political Science and French. She is a member of several honor societies including Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), Pi Delta Phi (French), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership) and Gamma Sigma Alpha (Greek academic). The R-MC honors program participant is a multiple Dean's List honoree and a two-time member of the All-ODAC Academic Team. On the field, Johnsen collected 25 points on 16 goals and nine assists. She was second in the ODAC with 56 ground balls and third with 72 draw controls. She also caused 28 turnovers. For her efforts, she was named to the third-team squad.
Junior midfielder Emily Lynch and her classmate and defender Maggie Benson were both named Second-Team All-ODAC by the league's head coaches.
Lynch wrapped up her third season in Ashland with 64 points on 46 goals and 18 assists. All three totals were good for second on the R-MC roster and ranked among the top-13 in the ODAC. Defensively, Lynch ranked fifth in the league with 32 caused turnovers on the season.
Benson anchored the R-MC defense during the 2012 season, staring in all 18 games for the Yellow Jackets. Benson registered career-highs in ground balls (29) and caused turnovers (14) as she earned the first all-league accolade of her career.
Joining Johnsen on the third-team is senior Kelly Egan who garners her third consecutive All-ODAC honor. Egan scored a team-high 50 goals and dished out a 25 assists for a team-leading 75 points on the season. Her point total was seventh highest in the league, while her assists and goals rank sixth and 10 best respectively.
