Box Score ASHLAND, Va--- #3 Christopher Newport topped Randolph-Macon 15-2 Thursday afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Captains improved to 24-4 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 14-13-1.
The win marked the second time this year Christopher Newport defeated R-MC, after topping the Jackets 2-1 in Newport News.
CNU raced out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first and one in the top of the second and never looked back.
Randolph-Macon hopped on the scoreboard in the third inning, plating one run. Matt Musser led off with a double down the left field line and later scored on a balk. The Yellow Jackets scored their second run of the contest in the following frame when Jon Witt scored Jordan Walton on a sacrifice fly.
The Captains scored five runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to give the final score.
Musser and Walton led the Jackets at the plate, recording two hits and a run each.
Matt Fischgrund took the loss for R-MC, falling to 1-1 on the year. Nick Santalucia earned the win for CNU, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, April 7th when they travel to Guilford for an ODAC double header. Game-time is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
