Box Score ASHLAND, Va---Randolph-Macon Baseball raced out to an early 7-0 lead over the first four innings and never looked back, defeating VWC, 8-5 Wednesday evening at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets improved to 15-15-1 overall, 8-6 in the ODAC, while the Marlins dropped to 5-20 on the season, 1-11 in conference play.
R-MC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off RBI singles by Jon Witt and Michael Helbig. The Jackets added two more runs in the next inning off a two run double to left center by Jake Fletcher, scoring Brian Jordan and Austin Carpenter.
An RBI single by Carpenter in the third pushed the Yellow Jackets lead to 5-0. In the following inning, Jordan Walton opened the scoring with an RBI double to right center. Witt followed with a single up the middle to score Walton and give R-MC the 7-0 lead.
Wesleyan clawed its way back into the game, plating two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth, but couldn't quite get back into the contest. Randolph-Macon added a run in the seventh to give the final score.
Witt led four players with two hits, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jordan, Fletcher, and Tim Benjamin each recorded two hits as well. Walton finished 1-for-2 with three walks and an RBI double. He currently ranks third in the league in batting (.426) and second in homeruns (five).
Jake Bram earned his third win of the year on the mound for R-MC, pitching six innings of two run ball while striking out two. Ryan Wood picked up his sixth save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth. Andrew Siracusa took the loss for the Marlins, tossing three innings, surrendering five runs (four earned).
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, April 14th when they play host to ODAC rival Hampden-Sydney on senior day. Game-time is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
