R-MC Women's Lax Rally Falls Short in 15-11 Loss to Marywood

Box Score

ASHLAND, VA – Marywood scored five goals in the final 8:32 of the first half to break open a close game and then withstood a Randolph-Macon rally in the closing minutes to take a 15-11 victory in women's lacrosse action.

Marywood (3-0) took an early 3-1 advantage when Brooke Boundurant scored 4:34 into the contest.

Audrey Hester pulled R-MC within one with a score, before Kim Commisso made it 4-2 with one of her three goals on the day.

After the teams traded scores, back-to-back strikes by Betsy Hebert and Kelly Egan tied the game with 9:49 to go in the half.

Boudurant sparked what proved to be 5-0 run to end the half and a six unanswered strikes by the Pacers with a goal on a free-position shot.

Trailing 14-7 with less than 15 minutes to play in the game, a Hebert free-position goal made it 14-8 and sparked what proved to be a 4-1 run for R-MC to end the contest.

Randolph-Macon cut it to 15-11 on a McGrew score with 3:32 to go, but that would be as close as it would get as Marywood was able to gain possession and kill the most of the remaining time.

Egan finished the day with four goals, while McGrew, Hebert and Hester each had a pair. Nicole Woodworth made nine stops in net for R-MC.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Pacers 30-26 with Marywood holding a 19-9 edge on draw controls, led by Commisso who had grabbed nine on the day.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Hood for a 1:00 p.m. game.
