ASHLAND, VA – Rowan swept a baseball doubleheader from Randolph-Macon Sunday afternoon, winning a wild 13-12 game one and topping the Yellow Jackets 10-1 in finale of the three-game series.

In game one with Rowan leading 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning,   R-MC was able to cut into the deficit by capitalizing on a pair of RU errors for one run, then a Matt Musser triple brought in Zach Broaddus and Macon Heikes to make the score 6-4.

After Rowan scored one run in the fifth inning, Jon Witt hit a one-out home run in the bottom half of the frame to make it 7-5.

R-MC (2-5-1) would then load the bases with two outs.  Austin Carpenter drew a walk to bring in a run, before a Brian Jordan RBI single brought in two runs to make the score 8-7.  After an error by the Profs led to another R-MC run to make the score 9-7, the Yellow Jackets got an RBI single by Jordan Walton and then Witt capped the scoring with an RBI single that plated Jake Fletcher and Walton to put R-MC 12-7.

The lead was short lived as the Profs scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score on at 12-12.

R-MC had a chance to go ahead in the last half of the seventh when it loaded the bases with just one out, but Rowan's Brian Rice was able to retire Heikes and Broaddus to get the Profs out of the inning.

In the top of the ninth, RU (3-0) got back-to-back singles and Nick Turano was able to deliver a two-out RBI single to put Rowan up 13-12.

Walton was able to draw a walk to lead off the R-MC ninth and move to second on a sacrifice bunt, but Rice was able to get the final two outs to preserve the win for Rowan.

In game two, Rowan scored six runs in the final two innings to break open a close 4-1 game and right-hander Andrew Lysy threw five innings, allowing one run on nine hits for the win.

Randolph-Macon will be off for just under a week before it opens up ODAC play on Saturday when it takes on Eastern Mennonite in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
