Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Lynchburg College scored three goals in the first half to get past Randolph-Macon Field Hockey 3-0 in the ODAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets finish the 2010 season 10-10 overall and 7-1 in ODAC play.
Lynchburg cracked the scoreboard eleven minutes in the game when Lindsay Leonard scored on a pass from Shelly Milks.
The Hornes increased their lead when the ball found its way onto the stick of junior Kelli Williams who finished the play for LC's second goal.
The first half ended with a penalty corner and one more opportunity for the Hornets. Sophomore Kelsey Link took the corner and sent it in to junior Nicole Marburger who took a shot that found its way into the back of the cage, giving LC a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Yellow Jackets made an offensive push late but could not rattle the cage and the Hornets held on to claim the ODAC title.
Nicole Woodworth finished the match with 26 saves for the Yellow Jackets. Olivia Newman added a defensive save. Woodworth finished the season with a total of 246 saves and a save percentage of .86, which is good for first in the ODAC.
With her performance in this match, Woodworth became the R-MC record holder for saves in a single season.
Lynchburg outshot Randolph-Macon 41-14 and maintained a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners.
