Box Score ASHLAND, VA -- Catherine Pricone scored three times and dished out one assist as the sophomore helped the Randolph-Macon field hockey team finish the 2012-13 regular season with a 5-1 victory over Roanoke on a Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Randolph-Macon improves to 9-9 on the season and 7-1 in ODAC play. The setback moves Roanoke to 3-4 in conference action.
Randolph-Macon took an early 1-0 lead when Rachael Gardner fired a shot that was stopped by goalkeeper Darian Shuker, but Pricone found the rebound and launched a shot that evaded the Maroon keeper.
Randolph-Macon continued to pressure Roanoke when Pricone lit up the scoreboard for the second time as she fired a shot that soared into the left-hand side of the cage.
With time running down in the first half, Roanoke's Shannon McCarthy found some freedom inside the circle and rattled the cage to bring the Maroons within one.
In the second stanza, the Randolph-Macon offense never let up, scoring three goals in seven minutes. Pricone struck first for her third goal of the match with Olivia Newman assisting the tally.
Sophomore Carrie Jacobs followed four minutes later as she drove home her team-leading 10th goal of the year to increase the lead to three. Jacobs finished the season tied for third in the ODAC in goals and fifth in total points.
With two minutes left on the clock, Pricone dished a quick pass to Gardner, who tipped the ball past Shuker for her sixth goal of the season.
Nicole Woodworth took the win in goal for the Yellow Jackets, finishing the match with eleven saves. Woodworth has recorded 206 total saves on the season and ranks first in the ODAC in saves and save percentage (.851).
Overall, the Yellow Jackets held a 24-13 advantage in shots, including a 20-6 edge in shots on goal.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on October 30th as they play host to the winner of game two in the ODAC tournament.
