Box Score ASHLAND, VA--- Randolph-Macon rolled past Sweet Briar, 8-0 to earn their first conference win of the year. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-6, 1-1 on the year, while the Vixens dropped to 3-5, 0-2 in the ODAC.
R-MC was led by Carrie Jacobs and Rachael Gardner, who scored two goals apiece on the afternoon. The Yellow Jackets have now put together their first winning streak of the year.
The women put four points on the board in each half. Gardner got the home team off to an early lead, scoring just under three minutes into the first stanza. At the six minute mark, Jacobs found the back of the cage for her team leading fifth goal of the year. Two minutes later, Jacobs found Gardner for her second score of the game to take a 3-0 lead. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, Lauren Seal beat two defenders down the right side of the field to score and give a four goal advantage heading into the half.
At the start of the second half, Seal found Jacobs for her second tally of the contest. Ten minutes later, Olivia Newman scored her first goal of the season to make it 6-0. Meredith Young recorded her third marker of the year off a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Seven minutes later, Audrey Hester found Kolby Kinsella to give the final score.
Nicole Woodworth picked up her second straight victory and fourth of the season. However, Steph Talley spent the majority of the game in goal, totaling two saves on the contest. Madeline Wilson took the loss for the Vixens, recording 17 saves on the afternoon.
Randolph-Macon dominated throughout the contest, outshooting Sweet Briar 35-2, including a 27-2 advantage in shots on goal. The women also held a 21-0 edge in penalty corners.
The women return to action Thursday, October 6th as they host Eastern Mennonite. Game time is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
