R-MC Cruises Past Wilson, 3-0 in Field Hockey Action Behind Two Goals from Freshman Carrie Jacobs

Box Score

ASHLAND, VA--- Randolph-Macon cruised by Wilson, 3-0 Sunday afternoon.  The women improved to 3-6, 0-1 in conference play, while the Phoenix fell to 4-2 on the season.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Yellow Jackets.  Five-of-six of the women's losses this year have come against ranked opponents, making their schedule one of the toughest in the country.

Just a minute and a half into play, Lauren Seal threaded a pass through the defense to a streaking Carrie Jacobs to take an early 1-0 lead.  Seal picked up her team-leading third assist of the year.

The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the first period.  15 minutes into the second stanza, Audrey Hester found the back of the cage off an assist from Meredith Young to take a two goal advantage.  With two minutes remaining, Jacobs scored her second goal of the contest off a feed from fellow freshman Colby Kinsella to give the final score.

The goal was Jacobs' team-best fourth of the year.  She now leads the team in goals and points (10).  Seal is currently ranked fourth in the conference and leads the Yellow Jackets with 30 shots on the year.

Nicole Woodworth recorded her second shutout and third victory of the year.  She totaled five saves on the afternoon, giving her a conference-best 113 for the season.  Woodworth also leads the ODAC in save percentage at .856.  Steph Talley relieved her defending the cage for the final 19 minutes of play.

Brandy Holtzapple took the loss in goal for Wilson, picking up 15 saves in the contest.

R-MC outshot WC 27-5, including a 22-5 edge in shots on goal.  The Yellow Jackets held the Phoenix to zero shots in the second period.  The women also held a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Randolph-Macon returns to action Wednesday, September 28 as the team looks to pick up its first conference win.  Game-time is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
