Box Score SALISBURY, MD--- Randolph-Macon fell to Juniata, 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the last day of the Salisbury University Field Hockey Invitational. The women dropped to 2-4 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 3-1 on the year.
R-MC fell to JC for the second straight season in the only two meetings between the two teams in the past decade. Both matchups came in the Salisbury Field Hockey Invitational.
Despite an early score and leading for most of the match, the Yellow Jackets weren't able to hold on to earn the victory. Juniata was knocking on the door throughout the contest, and finally got through late in the second period.
Lauren Seal scored off a cross from Carrie Jacobs just a minute into play to give R-MC an early advantage. The goal was Seal's third of the year.
Randolph-Macon led throughout the first half and much of the second stanza. With less than ten minutes to play, Shauna Deschenes scored off a rebound to tie the game. Thirty seconds later, Caroline Phillips found the back of the cage from the right corner of the circle for the eventual game-winner. Deschenes added her second score of the match with just over twenty seconds to play.
Janelle Howard picked up the victory in goal for the Eagles, recording one save on the afternoon. Nicole Woodworth led a solid defensive effort between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets, finishing with 12 saves on the day.
Juniata outshot Randolph-Macon 23-4 in the contest, including an 18-1 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles also held a 15-1 edge in penalty corners.
The women return to action next Sunday, September 18th when they travel to Fredericksburg, Va to take on Mary Washington. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
