LAKEWOOD, NJ-- Rowan scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth to get past Randolph-Macon Baseball 8-5 in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional Thursday morning in Lakewood, NJ. The Yellow Jackets will now face Johns Hopkins today at approximately 3:30 in an elimination game.

The Yellow Jackets (24-19) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Greg Mitro singled up the middle to score Peter Culver and Jeb Weymouth.

Rowan answered in the bottom of the second after Matt Hill singled up the middle to bring home two runs on the 13th pitch of his at bat.

Randolph-Macon went back on top in the fourth inning with three runs on three hits.

Peter Culver singled up the middle to score Jake Fletcher from second base. Weymouth followed in the next at bat with another run scoring single before Culver scored on a wild pitch that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 5-2.

The Profs rallied for five runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Brandon Winkler, Nick Turano, and Kevin O'Brien while Brad Woodend drove in two with a base hit.

Rowan tacked on one more run in the seventh to stretch the advantage to 8-5 which would prove to be the final.

Culver and Weymouth paced the Jackets at the plate with two hits and an RBI each. Brian Jordan, Michael Helbig and Mitro added singles.

Kyle Hicks is stuck with the loss after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and striking out two in four innings. Jame Bierlein gave up one earned run on four hits in four innings of relief.

Woodend led the Profs at the dish with a 4-for-5 game and also drove in two runs. Hill finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Ryan Peterson picks up the win on the mound after tossing four hitless innings. Kyle Brown went the final two thirds for the save.

Randolph-Macon will now face Johns Hopkins at approximately 3:30 in an elimination game.
