Box Score A five run, fourth inning rally propelled the second ranked Captains to a 15-6 win over Randolph-Macon Baseball in Ashland Thursday afternoon.
Brian Jordan led R-MC at the plate with three singles. Greg Mitro and Jay Lichter both had a double and an RBI each while Cory Jackson drove in two runs with a double.
Kevin Soltis is saddled with the loss after allowing one earned run in two and third innings.
Matt Shoemaker led the Captains at the dish with a 4-for-5 game that included a homerun and four RBI. Billy Steel and Connor Madden both went 3-for-5.
Jacob Vaughn picked up the win on the mound after tossing four innings of relief. Vaughn scattered three hits and struck out one.
Ben Lenda opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two run double to right center. Chris McDougal and Shoemaker pushed the lead to 4-0 with RBI singles later in the inning.
The Jackets answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Mitro sacrifice home Jordan. R-MC tacked on two more runs when Lichter reached on an error.
Shoemaker's single to centerfield in the top of the second plated two runs and put the Captains ahead 6-3.
Singles from Jeb Weymouth and Mitro set up a Lichter run scoring double in the bottom of the third. Jackson followed with a double to left that scored Mitro and Lichter and tied the score at 6-6.
Christopher Newport retook the lead in the fourth with five runs on four hits and two Randolph-Macon errors. Madden highlighted the inning with a two run double.
The Captains tacked on three in the sixth and one in the seventh to win by a final of 15-6.
R-MC Baseball is back in action Saturday, April 9th when they host Guilford College for a noon doubleheader. Before Saturday's game the Yellow Jackets will dedicate the New Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
