Box Score Randolph-Macon junior Brian Jordan stepped to plate with two outs in the top of the 14th and delivered a single to centerfield, scoring Dustin Baellow from second to propel the Yellow Jackets to a 1-0 win over Washington and Lee in the first day of the 2011 ODAC Baseball Tournament.
R-MC starting pitcher Kyle Hicks scattered five hits over eight scoreless innings. The 2010 ODAC Pitcher of the Year walked three and struck out nine. Dale Langford earned the win for the Yellow Jackets after tossing six innings in relief. The sophomore righty gave up just five hits and struck out two to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Jordan Walton belted a pair of doubles to lead Randolph-Macon at the plate. Greg Mitro also had a multi-hit game with a single and a double. Jordan drove in the Jackets only run with a single.
W&L starter and 2011 ODAC Pitcher of the Year Gregg Laswell dueled with Hicks, scattering seven hits over ten scoreless innings. Laswell walked just one and struck out 12.
Mike Decembrino paced the Generals at the dish going 3-for-5 while Mike Savas chipped in with two singles.
Washington and Lee had a runner on third with two outs in the bottom of the tenth when Alex Mait stepped to the dish and hit a groundball between shortstop and third. Randolph-Macon shortstop Peter Culver snagged the ball and made a long throw to first to hold off the W&L win.
The Yellow Jackets had a runner in scoring position in the 10th, 11th and 12th innings but could not manufacture a run.
In the top of the 14th, Cory Jackson singled to left to start the inning. Baellow then pinch ran for Jackson before Jordan delivered a two out single to center to plate the speedy Baellow.
The 14 inning contest marks the longest ODAC Baseball Tournament game in the conference's 35 year history.
Randolph-Macon will now face Lynchburg College at 7:00 Thursday night at City Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia.
