Box Score GREENSBORO, NC -- Greensboro got hat tricks from three different players as it tripped up Randolph-Macon 12-8 in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.
R-MC (0-2) was led by Kelly Egan who had three goals of her own, while Elyse Cooper had two goals and Holly Sargeant had three assists in the loss. Alex Flammia played all 60 minutes in the cage for R-MC, making eight stops.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first when Erin Clare Cassidy put R-MC up 1-0 on a free-position shot seven minutes into the game.
GC scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead, before Cooper pulled the Jackets even with a goal at the 10:59 mark of the first half.
The Pride scored three of the next four goals, going on top 5-3 on a strike by Michaela Sandoval with 2:42 to play in the opening stanza.
The Yellow Jackets were able to cut the deficit to one goal when Alicia McGrew took a pass from Egan and scored with 23 seconds to go, sending the teams to the intermission with GC up 5-4.
GC opened the second half with a 4-1 run, pushing ahead 9-5 on a Melissa Gallagher goal with 21:40 to play in the contest.
R-MC fought back with a 3-1 run of its own, getting two goals from Egan and one from Emily Lynch, to make the score 10-8 with 13:31 left on the clock.
That would be as close as the Jackets would get as Greensboro scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to seal the win.
R-MC will open a four game home stand on Tuesday when it hosts St. Mary of Maryland at 4:00 p.m. in Ashland.
