Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Rachel Bartee's goal with four seconds remaining in overtime propelled Washington College to a 15-14 victory over Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon in Ashland.
R-MC (1-4) was led by Erin Clare Cassidy's six goals and nine draw controls on the day. Elyse Cooper had four goals, while Kelly Egan had two goals and three assists. Alex Flammia made six stops in the cage for the Yellow Jackets.
Washington built and early 4-2 lead with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half, before back-to-back to goals by Alicia McGrew and Holly Sargeant drew the Jackets even with 9:23 to go.
The teams exchanged scores down the stretch before Washington scored two goals in the final 2:08 to take a 7-5 lead into the locker room.
A Cassidy goal 1:26 into the second half made the score 7-6, before Kalli Parrish put WAC back up by two at 8-6 with just over 24 minutes to play in the game.
With the Shorewomen up 9-7 with 18:15, left, Cassidy reeled off three straight scores, pulling R-MC in front with 14 minutes to play in the contest.
The two teams exchanged goals for the next 11 minutes with R-MC taking the lead three times.
After a Kelly Egan goal with 3:54 to play put R-MC up 13-12, WAC tied the game with just 1:21 toleft.
The teams went to overtime where Egan gave Randolph-Macon the lead 36 seconds into the first of two three minute OT periods.
R-MC would take the lead into the second overtime frame. Ann Eickelberg scored on a free-position shot with 22 seconds left on a shot that was originally blocked but rolled into the net for the equalizer.
The scored stayed tied for just 18 seconds when Bartee scored the game-winner.
Marissa Restaino scored three goals for WAC (6-0), while Bartee, Liza Twilly and Sarah Cannon each had a pair of goals in the game.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it opens up ODAC play against Randolph at 4:00 p.m.
