Box Score LEXINGTON, Va--- R-MC defeated Washington and Lee, 5-2 Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va. The win pushed the women's record to 8-7, 5-2 in ODAC play, while the Generals dropped to 6-10, 2-6 in the conference.
After falling behind, 1-0 on a Candice Stefanic score in the 10th minute, the Yellow Jackets came storming back, scoring four straight goals. Freshman Rachael Gardner evened the score at one 11 minutes later. With just over a minute remaining in the first period, Lauren Seal scored her eighth goal of the season to take the lead heading into the intermission.
Seal then found Carrie Jacobs twice at the start of the second half to put the game away. The two linked up the first time just a minute into the second stanza, to make the score 3-1. In the 42nd minute, Jacobs scored her team-best 10th goal of the season. She is ranked second in the conference in goals. Seal picked up her team-high seventh assist on the play, ranking her third in the ODAC in that category.
Five minutes later, W&L answered when Katelyn Daughtery found the back of the cage off an Anna Katheryn Barnes feed. In the 58th minute Mikalea Rumley dished an assist to Courtney Owens to give the final score.
Nicole Woodworth picked up the victory in goal for the Yellow Jackets, recording five saves. She sits second in the ODAC in saves with 151, just one shy of first place. Caroline Sutherland took the loss for home squad, stopping two shots.
Washington and Lee outshot Randolph-Macon, 13-11, including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. The General also held an 11-7 edge in penalty corners.
R-MC concludes its regular season on Wednesday, October 26th as they travel to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
