Box Score Meredith Young pulled the Yellow Jackets within one on a goal
with 17 minutes to go but Rhodes College held off the late R-MC
attack for a 3-2 win in Newport News Saturday.
Libby Fester scored on a pass from Lindsey Gurkovich eight
minutes into the game to put Rhodes up 1-0. The Lynx extended the
lead to 2-0 after Charlie Wagner converted on a penalty stroke.
Randolph-Macon cut the advantage to 2-1 just before half when
freshman Mikalea Rumley took a pass from Lauren Seal and rattled
the cage.
Libby Jones put Rhodes back up by two with an unassisted goal at
the 53 minute mark.
Yellow Jackets' sophomore Meredith Young capitalized on a
penalty stroke with 17 minutes to play, pulling R-MC within one at
3-2.
Randolph-Macon made several late runs but could not capitalize
and Rhodes College held on for the 3-2 win.
Nicole Woodworth stopped four shots on goal for Randolph-Macon
while Rhodes keeper Jordan Robinson made one save.
R-MC Field Hockey will be back in action Sunday, September
5th when they host Catholic University at 4:30.
