Box Score ASHLAND, VA - Quarterback Austin Faulkner
threw a career-high five touchdown passes as Randolph-Macon topped
visiting Shenandoah 42-14 Saturday afternoon in college football
action. R-MC is now 3-0 for the first time since 1986, while
Shenandoah drops to 0-3 on the season.
Three of Faulkner's scoring strikes
came in the first half as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 28-0
lead, scoring on all four, first half possessions. The Yellow
Jackets held the ball for 22:37 of the first stanza, scoring on a
nine-yard run by Thaddeus
Scruggs on the opening drive of the game and then getting TD
receptions from Dan Crouch (17
yards), Zach
Midulla (3 yards) and Crouch from one yard out with just 15
seconds remaining in the half.
For the game, Faulkner finished
25-of-32 with 267 yards to go along with the five touchdown tosses.
Earl
Peoples caught 17 passes from Faulkner for 170 yards and two
second-half scores. Crouch finished the day with four grabs for 49
yards. Scruggs helped the Jackets ground game gain 173 yards,
with 89 yards on 20 carries.
R-MC rolled up 25 first downs, 440
yards of offense and logged 40:15 of possession in the win.
Randolph-Macon ran 77 plays on the day to Shenandoah's 46 and
scored on all six trips to the Red Zone.
The Yellow Jackets defense held SU
to just 143 total yards, including just 72 through the air. The
Hornets were just 3-of-11 on third down on the afternoon. Trey Haddon had a
team-high seven tackles, including two behind the line of
scrimmage. Ian Candelaria
had five stops, including a sack for R-MC.
SU got on the board after its first
drive of the second half, when Keone Kyle capped off a 65 yard
drive with a one-yard plunge to make the score 28-7.
Two fourth quarter touchdowns by
Peoples extended the R-MC lead to 42-7, before Daniel Wright found
Brian Calloway from 22 yards out to close out the scoring, making
it 42-14, with 1:22 to go in the game.
Randolph-Macon will be back in
action next Saturday at home when it hosts Frostburg State at 1:00
p.m.
