Box Score Meredith Young's goal in the 57th minute proved
to be the game winner as Randolph-Macon Field Hockey defeated
William Paterson 3-2 in Salisbury Sunday. The Yellow Jackets finish
the Salisbury Tournament 1-1 and move to 1-4 on the season.
R-MC broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when
Monica Jenkins rattled the cage on a pass from Kendall Lam.
The Yellow Jacket defense held the Pioneers without a shot in
the first half while firing 17 of their own.
Jaclyn Bertos took advantage of a penalty stroke four minutes
after the intermission to tie the game at 1-1.
Freshman Lauren Seal put Randolph-Macon back on top 11 minutes
later with an unassisted goal off of a rebound.
R-MC went up 3-1 in the 57th minute on a goal from
Meredith Young who was assisted by Lam.
Bertos netted her second goal of the game six minutes later to
pull William Paterson within one but the Randolph-Macon defense
held strong in the closing minutes to finish off the 3-2
victory.
The Yellow Jackets held a 30-8 advantage in shots and edged the
Pioneers 20-5 in penalty corners.
R-MC Keeper Nicole Woodworth stopped four shots while WPU goalie
Meghan Trivett made 16 saves.
Randolph-Macon returns to the field Saturday, September
16th when they host ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan at
4:00.
