Box Score Randolph-Macon Field Hockey keeper Nicole Woodworth stopped 27
shots but Christopher Newport scored three second half goals on the
way to a 5-1 win over the Yellow Jackets.
The Captains took a 1-0 lead 7:27 into the game on a goal by
Caitlin Cahill but the Yellow Jackets' answered back six
seconds later when freshmen Mikalea Rumley rattled the cage to tie
the game at 1-1.
Cahill put CNU back on top with a goal at the 21:38 mark and the
2-1 advantage would hold to intermission.
Christopher Newport rattled off three goals in a 12 minute
stretch during the second half to pull away for the 5-1 win.
Woodworth stopped a career high 27 shots for the Yellow Jackets
while Captains' keeper tallied five saves.
CNU held a 40-7 advantage in shots and led 15-3 in penalty
corners.
Randolph-Macon returns to the field Saturday, September
4th at 11:00 am when they take on Rhodes at Christopher
Newport University.
