LYNCHBURG, VA— Eight Yellow Jackets had multi-hit games as
Randolph-Macon Baseball staved off elimination with 15-3 victory
over Washington and Lee University in the ODAC Baseball Tournament.
R-MC will now face Bridgewater College Saturday, April
24th at 3:00 p.m.
Randolph-Macon rallied for five runs on six hits and one
Generals' error in the second inning to take an early 5-0
lead. Ryan Hughes (Crozet, VA/ Western Albemarle) drove in two runs
with a single down the right field line. Brian Jordan (Columbia,
VA/ Goochland), Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) and Jordan
Walton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) all had RBI singles to cap
the five run inning.
An RBI single from Jake Fletcher (Deltaville, VA/ Middlesex) in
the second pushed the Yellow Jackets lead to 6-0 and Jordan drove
in another run with a groundout.
Washington and Lee cracked the scoreboard on a Hunter Serenbetz
RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth.
R-MC tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fourth,
highlighted by a two run double from Adam Carpenter (Richmond, VA/
Mills Godwin).
The Yellow Jackets added two more in the fifth on a
Hughes' two runs single and one in the eighth on Chris Mereen's RBI double to pull away for the 15-3 victory.
Weymouth, Walton and Carpenter all finished 3-for-4 to pace
Randolph-Macon at the plate. Carpenter drove in two runs with a
double. Hughes went 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Michael Helbig (Midlothian, VA/ Midlothian) improves to 4-2 on
the season after allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts in
seven innings of work. Haile Lytton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Hanover)
allowed just two runs in two innings of relief.
Joe Scalzo paced the Generals at the plate with a double and two
RBI. Roger Strong is stuck with the loss after allowing seven runs,
three of them earned in three innings of work.
Randolph-Macon will now face Bridgewater College Saturday, April
24 at 3:00 p.m. on day three of the ODAC Baseball Tournament at
City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA
