Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Erin Clare Cassidy scored three goals and
dished out two assists to lead a late charge for Randolph-Macon but
Washington College was able to hold off the Yellow Jackets 12-8 in
women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon in Ashland.
The Shorewomen (4-2) got two goals in the first three minutes
from Kalli Parrish and took a 3-0 lead when Sam Ohrem scored with
16:11 to go in the first half.
Elyse Cooper got R-MC (3-1) on the board with a goal at the
15:20 mark, but Washington took control of the contest, rattling
off three straight scores, taking a 6-1 edge on a Marissa Restaino
strike with 10:34 to go.
Cassidy scored two goals in a 20-second span to pull R-MC back
within three with just over nine minutes to go in the opening 30
minutes.
Restaino then scored with 7:14 to go and then capped the half
with a tally with just nine seconds remaining to send the teams to
the break with the Shorewomen up 8-3.
Washington scored the first three goals of the second half to
push its lead to 11-3, before a Logan Pomeroy goal got R-MC back
within striking distance at 11-4 with 11:07 to go in the game.
Rachel Bartee pushed the WC advantage to 12-4 with a goal at the
8:30 mark, before Randolph-Macon scored the final four goals of the
contest to account for the final score.
Pomeroy finished the afternoon with two scores, while Emily Kent
had three assists in a losing effort for R-MC.
Washington outshot R-MC 29-14 and forced 20 Jacket turnovers.
Alex Flammia made nine saves for Randolph-Macon, while Stephanie
Seibert turned away three shots on the afternoon for the
Shorewomen.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts
Hollins at 2:00 p.m.
