VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—Randolph-Macon Baseball took a 3-1 lead
into the bottom of the ninth before Virginia Wesleyan rallied for
two runs to send the game into extra innings where Mike Marion hit
a two run homerun in the bottom of the eleventh to give VWC the 5-3
win.
Adam Carpenter (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) led off the top of
the third with a solo homerun to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0
lead.
R-MC catcher Jay Lichter (Richmond, VA/ Varina) doubled home
James Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) in the fifth to extend
their lead to 2-0.
Marion pulled the Marlins within one on a two out solo homerun
to right field.
Randolph-Macon right fielder Cory Jackson (Beaverdam,VA/
PH-Ashland) hit a two out single to right center in the top of the
ninth, scoring Greg Mitro (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) to put the
Jackets up 3-1.
Virginia Wesleyan rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the
ninth on RBI singles from Josh Miller and Cameron Butler, sending
the game into extra innings.
The Yellow Jackets put runners on the top of the 11th but could
not manufacture a run and the score remained tied 3-3 heading into
the bottom of the 11th.
A Cameron single set up Marion's second home run of the game,
this time a two run shot to centerfield, giving the Marlins a 5-3
victory.
Bierlein picks up the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and
striking out two. R-MC starter Kyle Hicks (Goochland, VA/
Goochland) pitched eight innings, giving up just one earned run on
five hits while striking out eight.
Alex DeJesus earns the win pitching three innings and giving up
no runs on four hits.
Carpenter led R-MC at the plate with two hits including a
homerun and an RBI. Mitro also had two hits for the Yellow Jackets.
Marion finished 2-for-4 with both hits being homeruns to lead
the Marlins.
Randolph-Macon is back in action Saturday, March 20th, when they
travel to Bridgewater for a 12:00 noon doubleheader.
