Box Score Lauren Seal needed just over two minutes of overtime to score
and give Randolph-Macon Field Hockey (12-5 / 6-1 ODAC) a 2-1 win
over Washington and Lee in Ashland on Saturday. With the win the
Yellow Jackets clinch the number two seed for the ODAC Field Hockey
Tournament.
Washington and Lee struck first when Kelly Tran capitalized on a
penalty shot in the 39th minute.
The Generals maintained the 1-0 lead until the 64th
minute when Monica Jenkins dished to Mary McCarthy who scored to
tie the game at 1-1.
With less than two minutes to play, McCarthy fired a shot on the
open W&L net but the Generals' defender Lizz Dye made a
defensive save to send the game into overtime.
Randolph-Macon went on the attack early in the overtime period
with Freshman Lauren Seal beating her defender and rattling the
cage for the game winning goal.
R-MC outshot W&L 19-15 while the Generals took a 7-6 edge in
penalty corners. Randolph-Macon keeper Nicole Woodworth made ten
stops to secure the win.
The Yellow Jackets will finish out their 2010 regular season
when they host Mary Washington Wednesday, October 27th
at 3:30.
R-MC will enter the ODAC tournament as the No.2 seed and will
host the Semi-Final round on Wednesday, November 3rd;
their opponent is still to be determined.
