Box Score Senior attacker Mary McCarthy tallied four goals for her first
career hat trick as Randolph-Macon Field Hockey (11-5 / 5-1 ODAC)
defeated Roanoke College 6-1 in Salem Tuesday.
Roanoke College struck first with a goal by Abby Bjork in the
18th minute on a pass from Lee Sheldon.
The Yellow Jackets responded just two minutes later when Monica
Jenkins scored unassisted to tie the game at 1-1.
Jenkins then assisted Mary McCarthy for her first goal just
before halftime to give R-MC a 2-1 advantage at the
intermission.
Randolph-Macon opened up their offensive attack in the second
half with McCarthy scoring unassisted in the 53rd and
55th minutes.
Freshman Lauren Seal took a pass from Meredith Young and scored
at 58 minute mark to extend the Jackets' lead to 5-1.
R-MC capped the 6-1 victory when Jenkins again assisted McCarthy
for a goal.
Keeper Nicole Woodworth held the Roanoke attack to just one goal
while making three saves.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Maroons 13-0 in the second half
and 24-7 for the game. R-MC also held an 18-4 edge in corners.
Randolph-Macon Field Hockey wraps up their 2010 ODAC regular
season when they host Washington and Lee on Saturday, October
23rd at 1:00. The Jackets are currently tied with the
Generals for second place in the conference.
