Box Score LEXINGTON, VA -- Washington and Lee rushed for 427 yards as a
team as it handed No. 20 Randolph-Macon its first loss of the
season Saturday 42-28 in Lexington, VA.
R-MC falls to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC, while W&L is
now 4-2 and 3-0 in the league.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out in front 7-0 on the opening
possession of the game when Drake Sanders
scored from four yards out to put Randolph-Macon up early.
The Generals responded with 21 unanswered points, getting a pair
of rushing touchdowns from Luke Heinshon and a TD scamper from
Harrison Hudson that put Washington and Lee ahead 21-7 with just
under 10 minutes to go in the first half.
The Jackets cut it to a one score game on its ensuing
possession, putting together a 11 play, 64 yard drive that was
capped off by a one yard plunge from Sanders to make the score
21-14 with 4:31 to go in the half.
Washington and Lee responded with a 90 yard drive on eight
plays, scoring with just over a minute to go before halftime to
take a 28-14 lead into the locker room at intermission.
The Generals opened the second half with a scoring drive that
Hudson finished with a seven-yard scoring reception to put his team
up 35-14, a lead the Generals defense would make stand up, forcing
four turnovers on the afternoon.
R-MC ran for 258 yards of its own via the ground. Sanders
led the R-MC offense with 186 yards on 35 carries, while Earl Peoples had
four catches for 96 yards in the loss.
Heinshon ran for 147 yards and two scores on 17 carries, while
Brett Murray had a 100 yards on 10 carries and Hudson chipped in
with 97 yards on the day.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action next Saturday when it
hosts Guilford College at 1:00 p.m.
