Randolph-Macon 2-1 in Double Overtime
SALISBURY,
MD--- Randolph-Macon Field Hockey battled Frostburg State
into double overtime before falling 2-1 in the second day of the
Salisbury Invitational Tournament Sunday. Yellow Jacket goalie
Kortney McLaughlin collected 12 saves including two in the first
overtime and three in the second.
Yellow Jacket Junior Kendall Lam scored in the 8th
minute on a pass from Nicole Klee to give R-MC an early 1-0
advantage.
Randolph-Macon's defense held Frostburg scoreless until the
32nd minute when Brooke Tapman netted a goal to tie the
game 1-1 going into the half.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second half to send the game
to overtime.
The game remained locked in a 1-1 tie until Russell netted a
Chelsea Smith pass in the 98th minute to give FSU the
2-1 win.
Yellow Jackets' keeper Kortney McLaughlin collected two saves in
the first overtime and three in the second to keep R-MC in the
game. McLaughlin totaled 12 saves on the day while FSU goalie
Maggie Edwards recorded 14 saves in the win
The Bobcats held a 25-17 advantage in shots and a 19-13 lead in
penalty corners.
Randolph-Macon Field Hockey returns to the field Wednesday,
September 16th to host Christopher Newport in a 4:30
p.m. game. Frostburg State will host Shenandoah Wednesday at 4:00
p.m.
