R-MC Sweeps Roanoke in ODAC Baseball Doubleheader

ASHLAND, VA - Charlie Hartt hit three homeruns
and Randolph-Macon got two strong starts on the mound from Matt
Tiller and Brian Jordan as the Yellow Jackets swept Roanoke 8-2 and
16-1 in ODAC baseball action on Thursday in Ashland.
In game one, Jordan paced R-MC (15-17 / 10-6
ODAC) to an 8-2 victory, allowing just two hits over 5.2 innings
and striking out seven to improve his record to 2-0 on the season.
With the Jackets up 2-0, Greg Meleski tripled to
open the third inning and was followed by Hartt who homered to make
the score 4-0.
In the fifth inning, the duo struck again, this
time Meleski doubled to start the inning and Hartt connected for a
homerun to make the score 6-0. Later in the inning, Jay Lichter
singled to score Jeff Beck and JC Conway, putting R-MC out in front
8-0.
In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets pounded out
20 hits and Tiller allowed just one run on five hits over six
innings of work to pick up his first win of the season and secure
the sweep for Randolph-Macon.
A six run, second inning was highlighted by base
loaded double off the bat of James Bierlein that scored all three
runners.
With the score 7-1 in favor of R-MC, the Jackets
put the game away with a four run, fourth inning which Hartt hit a
solo homerun with one out and later in the inning Greg Mitro, Adam
Carpenter and Bierlein all contributed with RBI hits to push the
Yellow Jackets advantage to 11-1.
Hartt finished the day 4-for-8 with six RBI and
three runs scored, while Bierlein was 5-for-6 with six RBI in the
two victories.
RC, which fell to 9-20 overall and 4-11 in the
ODAC after the two losses, was led by Jay Laramore who had three
hits on the day as well as an RBI and a run scored.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on
Saturday when they host Guilford in an ODAC doubleheader starting
at 1:00 p.m.
