R-MC Sweeps ODAC Baseball Doubleheader from Washington
and Lee

ASHLAND, VA - Charlie Hartt's walk-off homerun in game two,
powered Randolph-Macon to a 6-4 victory and an ODAC doubleheader
sweep of Washington and Lee. The Yellow Jackets took game one 7-3
behind three homers and a strong outing on the mound from James
Bierlein.
R-MC (11-17 / 8-6 ODAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second
inning when Mike Wallace launched his first homerun of the day off
W&L (14-9 / 5-6 ODAC) starter John Davidson.
The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 3-0 when Kevin Davis
opened the third inning with a double and came around to score when
Greg Meleski followed with a double of his own. With two outs and
two on, Jeff Beck made the score 6-0 with a three-run homer to
right field.
After a Will Lewis RBI single in the Generals fifth inning got
the W&L on the board, R-MC got an insurance run from JC Conway
whose solo homerun in the home half of the fifth put the Jackets up
7-1.
Washington and Lee rallied in the seventh, putting the first two
runners and scoring a run on a ground out by Hunter Serenbetz. A
Byron Peyster double then cut the R-MC lead to 7-3. With runners on
first and third, Bierlein was pulled in favor of Haile Lytton, who
got the final out of the game to secure the win for R-MC.
Bierlein improved his record to 2-0 on the season after throwing
6.2 innings and allowing just three runs on 10 hits. Lytton earned
his first save of the season.
In game two, a Lewis solo homerun off R-MC starter Byron
Mendenhall put the Generals on top 1-0 in the fourth inning.
R-MC responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a
pair of runs on RBI hits by Wallace and Greg Mitro to take a 2-1
advantage.
In the fifth inning , Serenbetz led off the frame with a solo
shot to tie the score at 2-2 and Terrance Mckelvey doubled later in
the inning to give W&L a 4-2 advantage.
A Wallace homerun in the sixth cut the Generals lead to 4-3
before the Jackets tied the game in the seventh.
In the decisive ninth inning, Meleski singled with one out and
was followed by Hartt who homered off Washington and Lee reliever
Andrew Henderson (1-2).
Josh Ellwood got the last two outs of the ninth inning to earn
the win for R-MC and improve his record to 2-2 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday when it
hosts Roanoke in an ODAC twin bill at 1:00 p.m. in Ashland.
