R-MC Sweeps ODAC Baseball Doubleheader from Washington and Lee
(Game One Box) / (Game Two Box)

ASHLAND, VA - Charlie Hartt's walk-off homerun in game two, powered Randolph-Macon to a 6-4 victory and an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Washington and Lee. The Yellow Jackets took game one 7-3 behind three homers and a strong outing on the mound from James Bierlein.

R-MC (11-17 / 8-6 ODAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Mike Wallace launched his first homerun of the day off W&L (14-9 / 5-6 ODAC) starter John Davidson.

The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 3-0 when Kevin Davis opened the third inning with a double and came around to score when Greg Meleski followed with a double of his own. With two outs and two on, Jeff Beck made the score 6-0 with a three-run homer to right field.

After a Will Lewis RBI single in the Generals fifth inning got the W&L on the board, R-MC got an insurance run from JC Conway whose solo homerun in the home half of the fifth put the Jackets up 7-1.

Washington and Lee rallied in the seventh, putting the first two runners and scoring a run on a ground out by Hunter Serenbetz. A Byron Peyster double then cut the R-MC lead to 7-3. With runners on first and third, Bierlein was pulled in favor of Haile Lytton, who got the final out of the game to secure the win for R-MC.

Bierlein improved his record to 2-0 on the season after throwing 6.2 innings and allowing just three runs on 10 hits. Lytton earned his first save of the season.

In game two, a Lewis solo homerun off R-MC starter Byron Mendenhall put the Generals on top 1-0 in the fourth inning.

R-MC responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a pair of runs on RBI hits by Wallace and Greg Mitro to take a 2-1 advantage.

In the fifth inning , Serenbetz led off the frame with a solo shot to tie the score at 2-2 and Terrance Mckelvey doubled later in the inning to give W&L a 4-2 advantage.

A Wallace homerun in the sixth cut the Generals lead to 4-3 before the Jackets tied the game in the seventh.

In the decisive ninth inning, Meleski singled with one out and was followed by Hartt who homered off Washington and Lee reliever Andrew Henderson (1-2).

Josh Ellwood got the last two outs of the ninth inning to earn the win for R-MC and improve his record to 2-2 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Roanoke in an ODAC twin bill at 1:00 p.m. in Ashland.
