No. 19 Christopher Newport Slips by Randolph-Macon 3-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- No. 19 Christopher Newport University snuck
past Randolph-Macon Tuesday afternoon, 3-1, at Captains Park in
Newport News.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, plating a run on a
CNU error. The Captains wasted no time as Shannon Mark's one out
two-run single scored two in the bottom half of the frame.
Christopher Newport's Parker Neal tacked on an insurance run in
the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single.
Mike Giarrizzi and Ian Lenda combined on a three-hitter.
Giarrizzi started and went four innings, allowing one unearned run
on one hit, walking four and striking out seven. Lenda threw the
final five, yielding two hits, walked two and struck out one, to
pick up the win in relief.
R-MC starter Steve Carper (0-1) went four innings in his first
collegiate start, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out
two.
Randolph-Macon will be back in ODAC action on
Saturday when it hosts Roanoke College at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday,
the Jackets will recognize its four seniors from last year's Old
Dominion Athletic Conference Championship team on Saturday. During
its league doubleheader with Roanoke on Saturday, Chris Dykes, Bo
Garner, Devin O'Meara and Mike Gerdes will be presented with their
team Most Valuable Player rings from 2008.
