Previous Coaching Experience:
Gettler brings 39 years of collegiate head coaching experience and 308 NCAA men's soccer victories to RMC. Most recently, he spent six seasons (2010-15) as coach and Deputy Director of Athletics at Husson University [NCAA III], leading the Eagles to a pair of conference titles and national tournament appearances. Before the 2009 campaign, when he was an assistant at Bradley University [NCAA I], Gettler's stops included 14 years (1995-2008) at the University of Richmond [NCAA I] and four (1991-94) with Lafayette College [NCAA I], which featured a combined three teams making the national field. Prior to those, he spent nine years (1982-90) at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst [NCAA I], four (1978-81) leading Bates College [NCAA III], and two (1976-77) at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell [NCAA II]. Gettler has been thoroughly involved with the United Soccer Coaches association and its education since entering the field. Additionally, from 1995-98, he was a central piece in the success of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship weekend hosted by the University of Richmond, which still holds the event record for attendance from 1995.
From 2016-2021, Gettler was the Director of Coaching with the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club. He spent 2021-2022 as an assistant coach for the University of New England women's soccer team, and he is currently the Director of Coaching for Grove United in Richmond.
Competitive Experience / Education:
Gettler played four seasons (1969-72) of soccer at Lycoming College [NCAA III], and earned a bachelor's degree in religion in 1973. He later received a master's degree in movement, health, and leisure from Boston University in 1981.
