Brett Mays is in his first season with the R-MC baseball team. He will serve as pitching coach for the Yellow Jackets.
Mays has been coaching various levels of baseball since 2015. This past summer, Mays was pitching coach for the Peninsula Pilots in the Coastal Plain League. The Pilots finished with a 32-11 record, the best in the East Division.
From 2019-21, Mays was pitching coach and head coach of developmental team and Bryant & Stratton College in Virginia Beach, Va. Along with on-field responsibilities, he handled equipment and travel for the team. Mays was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for Stratford University in Newport News, Va., from 2017-19.
During the spring of 2017, Mays was pitching coach at Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. Since 2015, he has been a pitching instructor and coach for ODH in Newport News, Va. Mays worked with amateur as well as professional athletes.
A native of Newport News, Va., Mays pitched at Marshall for one year before transferring to Christopher Newport University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from CNU in 2015.
