How It Happened:
- The Cougars tallied a run in the bottom of the first before the Yellow Jackets got on the board in the top of the fourth. Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) was hit by a pitch, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After Justin Lanouette (Chantilly, Va./Freedom) walked, Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) singled to left to bring home Duff and tie the game at 1-1. Zach Stolze (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) reached on a fielder's choice, and he and Bowles scored on a two-out single by CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) to give the visitors a 3-1 edge.
- RMC added to its lead in the fifth. Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) led off with a single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Duff to make it 4-1.
- AU put its first two runners on in the bottom of the sixth. Phillips got a strikeout after two failed sacrifice bunt attempts, Wernoski made a diving catch on a liner up the middle, and a groundout to Stolze at first ended the threat.
- The Yellow Jackets put up another crooked number in the seventh. Wernoski had a one-out single and went to second on a two-out base hit by Duff. Lanouette laced a double down the left field line to knock in Wernoski and Duff to extend the lead to 6-1.
- The Cougars plated two in the bottom of the seventh before RMC responded in the eighth. Stolze and James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Marks) were hit by pitches to start the frame. Chatterton forced Stolze out at third on a sacrifice attempt. Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) reached on an error and went to second with Baffone scoring to make it 7-3. Chatterton scored on a wild pitch and Wernoski brought home Quici with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 9-3.
