LEXINGTON, Ky. – After leading Randolph-Macon to clinch the best record in the country (30-4), junior Bryce Matthews (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) has been named to the Region 3 AVCA All-Region Team for the first time in his career.
 
Matthews posted career-highs this year in points (356), kills (295), hitting percentage (.313), digs (152), blocks (60), service aces (24) and assists (12). His points mark, as well as his 4.14 points per set, ranks second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Additionally, his kills total and 3.43 kills per set both slot him third in the ODAC. The junior also ranks in the top-15 in the conference in hitting percentage, service aces and digs.
 
The opposite hitter used a career-high 23 kills to defeat the Royals in the ODAC Championship, pushing him to lead Randolph-Macon in points, points per set, kills and kills per set. He posted 10-or-more kills in 13 matches this season, hitting above a .325 in 10 of those contests.
 
Furthermore, over the course of starting in all 29 matches he appeared in, Matthews totaled a team-high 642 attacks, good for 22.1 attacks per game.
 
Matthews and the Yellow Jackets will face Messiah in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament on Friday, April 17, in Huntingdon, Pa. at 4:00 p.m.
