ASHLAND, Va. – After putting together a 2-1 week, Randolph-Macon Baseball has vaulted back to No. 25 in the latest D3baseball/NCBWA poll, earning 54 total votes from Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country.
This past week, the Yellow Jackets dropped a tough high-scoring battle against the United States Coast Guard Academy, before sweeping #23 Roanoke over the weekend.
In game one of the doubleheader against the Maroons, Randolph-Macon enforced its first mercy rule win of the season, beating RC 12-2 in seven innings. In the contest, Randolph-Macon finished with its second-highest hit total of the season, totaling 14 compared to five from the visitors. Included in the 14 hits were home runs from two different Yellow Jackets. In game two, the Lemon and Black used a seventh inning rally to earn a comeback 5-3 win. In both games, the home squad finished play with no errors, giving Roanoke its first ODAC losses of the season.
After the victories, RMC sits at 9-4 this season, including 7-1 when playing in Ashland. Four Yellow Jackets have an OPS greater than .850 and a slugging percentage higher than .450.
This week, the Lemon and Black host Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. before playing Mary Washington on Thursday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Ashland, Va.
