ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon softball had six players represented on the all-state recognition by VaSID for the 2025 season.
Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) took home state pitcher of the year and was named as a first team pitcher.
Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and
Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) joined their fellow senior on the first team list as well.
Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan),
Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) and
Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) all were tabbed on the second team in their respective positions.
Ellis was named as the VaSID State Pitcher of the Year, as well as a first team mention. The New Kent native completed her stellar career at the biggest stage a few weeks ago at the NCAA DIII Softball National Championships. Ellis started all five games in Bloomington, Illinois for the Yellow Jackets, leading the team to the doorstep of the national championship series. The senior ended the tournament hurling 32.1 innings in five games, allowing 16 runs and sat down 32 batters via strikeout. Randolph-Macon was led to victory in three elimination games by Ellis' performance in the circle. In those three elimination games against #7 Saint Mary's (Minn.), #4 Rowan and #3 Virginia Wesleyan; Ellis recorded a 3-0 record in 21.0 innings of work. She would only give up five runs on thirteen hits, mounted 22 strikeouts and pitched a shutout against Rowan. The accolade adds to her storybook senior season, as Ellis has now been named ODAC Pitcher of the Year and first team member, a NFCA All-Region VI first team member, a NFCA All-America first team member and was awarded the National Pitcher of the Year by NFCA.
Lanyon was awarded a spot on the all-state first team list for outfielders. The Midlothian native had a tremendous end of her career at the national championships, recognized as one of the best position players in school history. In her five games at the world series, Lanyon went 8-for-18 (.444) in the leadoff spot for the Lemon and Black. She knocked in four runs, scored twice throughout the week and hit a solo homer in the Yellow Jackets final game of the season against #3 Virginia Wesleyan in the national semifinals. Lanyon also made highlights in the field with her defensive play in multiple spots during the week for Randolph-Macon. She had two noteworthy and game altering plays in the outfield against #4 Rowan in the same inning, keeping the Profs off the scoreboard. In the same game she also delivered the ultimate game-winning hit in the top of the seventh inning, driving in Powell on a two out single. This accolade adds to her award winning senior season, as Lanyon has now been named as a first team all-conference and all-state outfielder.
Sadler was named to the first team of the VaSID all-state awards for designated players. The Emporia native completed her career with a stat filled world series experience. Sadler ended the five game week going 5-for-16 (.313) with three runs scored, a walk and added an on-base percentage of .353. Her best game at the plate came against #7 Saint Mary's (Minn.) with two hits and two runs scored. The senior used her speed to cause havoc on the base paths, legging out infield hits, keeping the offensive threat on for Randolph-Macon. Sadler also broke the program's career walks record during the national tournament. This accolade adds to her senior season of being named to the ODAC second team list earlier in the spring.
Davis was awarded a spot on the all-state second team for catchers. The Powhatan native finished her senior season as an elite battery behind the plate, as a tremendous defensive and offensive catcher for the Lemon and Black. She finished with four hits at the world series, including a huge two-run go ahead bomb against #7 Saint Mary's (Minn.) in the second inning to put the Yellow Jackets up 4-2. Davis also came up huge against the Cardinals on defense, throwing out two potential base stealers. This accolade adds to her senior season of being named to the ODAC first team list earlier in the spring.
Hill was tabbed on the all-state second team as a first baseman for the Lemon and Black. The Hanover native ended the world series going 4-for-13 (.308) with a run scored and two walks, adding to her game changing three run homer against #3 Virginia Wesleyan in the first game of the national semifinals. In her 15 overall plate appearances she also did not record a strikeout. This accolade adds to her being named as a third team all-conference player for Randolph-Macon.
Powell has added a third postseason award to her noteworthy sophomore campaign, being named as an all-state second team player for second base. The Freeman native cemented herself into the starting second baseman role to pair with shortstop
Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). The sophomore represented the ultimate game-winning run against #4 Rowan in Bloomington, Illinois at the world series. She totaled scoring twice and walked twice in her five games at the world series. This accolade adds to her being named as a second team all-region and second team all-conference player for Randolph-Macon.
The Yellow Jackets were represented well in the VaSID all-state award lists for both first and second team, totalling six overall players between both lists. Christopher Newport had the most names on the all-state list with eight overall. Virginia Wesleyan landed the second most awarded names with seven and four other ODAC schools each had one representative from their institutions (Lynchburg, Roanoke, Randolph, Averett).
