How It Happened:
  • The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the top of the first in the opener. Sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) reached on an error and moved to third on a double by junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's). With one away, Bowles scored on a groundout by senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Veach, Va./Ocean Lakes). A single by senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) plated Schmitt to make it 2-0.
  • RMC added to its lead in the second. Sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bowles as the advantage grew to 3-0.
  • After the Quakers tallied one in the bottom of the third, the Yellow Jackets answered in the fourth. Sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second by Baffone, went to third on a groundout by sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) and scored on a base hit by freshman CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) to make it 4-1. Chatterton stole second and came home on a double by Bowles to make the score 5-1.
  • GC added a run in the bottom of the fourth before Harvey led off the fifth with his team-leading seventh home run of the season to give RMC a 6-2 edge.
  • The Yellow Jackets added a run in the sixth. Quici reached on an infield single, went to second on a failed pickoff attempt, advanced to third on a groundout by Chatterton and came home on a groundout by Bowles to make it 7-2.
  • The Quakers erupted for six in the seventh to take a one-run lead before RMC responded in the eighth. Chatterton had a leadoff single and was sacrificed to second by Bowles. After going to third on a wild pitch, Chatterton scored on a double by Schmitt to level the score at 8-8.
  • Following a rain delay in the middle of the eighth, Shanahan retired the Quakers in order in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of strikeouts.
  • The Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead in the ninth. Wernoski, Baffone and Quici drew walks to load the bases. Chatterton grounded out to second and knocked in Wernoski to give RMC a 9-8 edge. With two away, Schmitt singled to center to drive in Baffone and Quici to make it 11-8.

How It Happened:
  • The Yellow Jackets failed to score in the top of the first in the nightcap. In the bottom of the frame, the Quakers had a runner on first with two away. The runner tried to score on a double to right, but Bowles threw to second baseman Wernoski and his relay to junior catcher Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) nailed the runner at the plate to keep it a scoreless contest.
  • Wernoski led off the second with a triple and came home on a double by Lautenschlager to give RMC a 1-0 edge. Quici singled to the pitcher and went to second on a throwing error, sending Lautenschlager to third. Pinto pinch-ran for Lautenschlager at third, and he and Quici scored on a single by Duff to make it 3-0. Harvey added a two-out RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • GC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second before the Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the fifth. Harvey singled and scored on a triple by Pinto to make it 5-2.
  • RMC put up another crooked number in the sixth. Duff and Chatterton were both hit by pitches and a bunt single by Bowles loaded the bases. Schmitt delivered a two-run double and Harvey hammered a three-run homer, his second long ball of the day, to push the lead to 10-2.
  • Junior William Wian (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) pitched the first five innings with seven hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts to raise his record to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in conference games.
  • Shanahan hurled the final three frames with one hit, one walk, no runs and six strikeouts to record his third save.
