How It Happened:
- The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Bowles had a leadoff single and was sacrificed to second by sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill). Junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) and senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) drew walks to load the bases before Bowles scored on a groundout by Harvey to give the home team a 1-0 edge.
- Sophomore Patrick Phillips (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) held the Hornets hitless over the first four innings, but LYN started the fifth with four singles and all four runners scored to give them a 4-1 advantage.
- RMC got one back in the sixth. Harvey had a one-out base hit and went to third on a single to right by sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga). After sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Harvey scored on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) to make it 4-2.
- The Yellow Jackets would pull within one in the seventh. Bowles had a leadoff single, went to second when Wernoski was hit by a pitch, and moved to third when Schmitt reached on a bunt single. Harvey delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in Bowles, making it 4-3.
- LYN added a run in the eighth to go up 5-3. RMC put two on the eighth and one in the ninth, but were unable to score.
