ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) went 7 for 8 with a double, two homers, two walks, four runs and six RBI as the No. 13 Randolph-Macon baseball team split an ODAC doubleheader with Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1
How It Happened:
  • The Generals put up three in the top of the second of which two were unearned. The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the frame. Senior Aidan Pinto (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a homer to right by sophomore Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover), his first collegiate dinger, to make it 3-2. With one away, freshman CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) walked, stole second, went to third on an errant throw and scored on a base hit by sophomore Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Connestoga) to level the score at 3-3.
  • After WLU used a homer to reclaim the lead in the top of the third, RMC went ahead in the fifth. Lautenschlager had a leadoff walk and went to second on a base hit by senior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School). Pinto had a perfect bunt on the third base line to load the bases. Bowles was hit by a pitch and sophomore James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) walked to force in runs and give the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 lead. Chatterton reached on a fielder's choice to plate another run. Quici added a two-run double, sophomore Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) delivered a sacrifice fly and Lautenschlager had an RBI single to cap the seven-run outburst as RMC led 10-4.
  • The Generals tallied one in the top of the sixth before Pinto doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) to make it 11-5.
  • Lautenschlager and Pinto had RBI singles in the seventh and WLU plated one in the eighth to make the final 13-6.
By The Numbers
  • Quici went 2 for 6 with a double and three RBI.
  • Bowles was 1 for 3 with a homer, two runs and three RBI.
  • Lautenschlager went 3 for 3 with a double, two walks and two RBI.
  • Pinto had three hits and scored three times.
  • Senior Bere Bauers (Phoenixville, Pa./Devon Prep) earned the win, going 5.0 innings with four hits, four runs, two earned runs, no walks and three strikeouts to even his record at 1-1.
Game 2
How It Happened:
  • The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Quici had a leadoff walk and scored on a double by Wernoski. With one away, Lautenschlager belted a homer to center, his first of the season, to make it 3-0.
  • The Generals tied it in the second and went up 4-3 in the third before RMC answered in the fourth. Hagerich had a one-out single, stole second, went to third on a base hit by Hill and came home on a single by Brooks to knot the score at 4-4. Both runners would score on a base hit by Wernoski as the Yellow Jackets took a 6-4 advantage.
  • WLU pulled within one in the top of the fifth before RMC put up another three-spot in the bottom of the frame. Lautenschlager had a leadoff infield single and went to second on a one-out walk to junior catcher Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian). Junior Alex Hagerich (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) delivered a run-scoring base hit and Quici added a two-run single as the Yellow Jackets went up 9-5.
  • The Generals scored six in the top of the sixth, five with two away, to take an 11-9 lead. Lautenschlager homered to left to pull RMC within one at 11-10.
  • Junior Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) had an RBI double and scored on a single by Lautenschlager in the seventh as the Yellow Jackets took a 12-11 edge.
  • WLU scored three with two away in the eighth to go up 14-12. RMC did not score in the bottom of the frame. The umpires called the game after eight innings due to darkness.
By The Numbers
  • Lautenschlager went 4 for 5 with two home runs, three runs and four RBI.
  • Wernoski was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBI.
  • In his first collegiate start, Hagerich went 2 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs and one RBI. He also had four putouts and three assists.
