#2 Men's Hoops Defeats Centre with Three in Double Figures

GALLATIN, Tenn. - Three different players scored in double figures as Randolph-Macon Men's Hoops used a 22-3 run in the first half to dominate Centre in the opening game of the Music City Classic, 84-46.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • Randolph-Macon saw Delani Hammonds (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) jump start the offense to six straight points to begin the game, contributing four points. Centre cut the lead in half with a three-pointer and with 18:24 left in the opening half the Yellow Jackets lead was 6-3. Randolph-Macon took a commanding lead by scoring the next 16 points and with 12:23 on the clock would hold a 22-3 lead. The offense had seven different players score during the run and the defense forced three turnovers. The Colonels found a groove on offense, scoring nine straight to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to only ten points at 22-12 with 11:02 left in the half. Amr Areikat (Ramallah, Palestine./Langley) and Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) recorded back-to-back lay-ups at the end of the half to push the lead back to 15 for Randolph-Macon at 42-27. 
  • In the second half, Hammonds knocked down two straight three balls in the first four minutes and the lead would be 48-33 for the Lemon and Black. Bryce Scott (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) pushed the lead back to 20 points with a lay-up at the 13:51 mark. The offensive pressure continued for Randolph-Macon and a Hodges bucket with 8:25 left in regulation pushed the lead to 30 points at 70-39. Doran Clausell (Washington, D.C./Banneker) made a lay-up with 1:33 left in the game to give the Lemon and Black their biggest lead of the game at 38 points. Randolph-Macon took home the victory by a score of 84-46. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Randolph-Macon shot 53.1 percent from the floor, as Centre knocked down 29.8 percent of its shots. 
  • The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Colonels 50-to-25 in the entire game.
  • Hodges led all scorers with 14 points. The junior shot 7-for-13 (.538) from the floor, adding three assists and two rebounds. 
  • Hammonds and Areikat each scored 10 points for the Lemon and Black. Hammonds added three rebounds and an assist. Areikat pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists. 
  • Scott ended the game with nine points, six rebounds and a blocked shot.
  • Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) pulled down eight rebounds to go along with his eight points.
