How it Happened
- Dickinson opened the game on a 12-0 run, as the Red Devils' Mia Chapman posted all 12 after making three of her first five shots. Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) was then able to get her squad on the board with a layup, before the Red Devils earned five more points. RMC's offense started to find its rhythm, as a layup from Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and two free throws from Smith helped pull the Yellow Jackets within 10, at 17-7. While DC hit a three pointer on its last full possession of the quarter, RMC found itself down 20-to-nine after two more free throws from Smith.
- While the Red Devils were able to generate the largest lead of the game so far up 23-to-nine, layups from Porter and McKenzie Matheny (Fairfax Station, Va./West Springfield) put the Lemon and Black back within 10. Dickinson responded with three jumpers of its own, including two three-pointers, to recapture a 33-17 lead. After earning another offensive possession thanks to an offensive team rebound, a floater from Porter, deuce from Miller and two free throws from Smith had RMC down, 33-23. In the last minute of the half, Porter's second steal of the game led to a layup from Matheny, putting RMC down 38-27 heading into the break.
- The third quarter saw Chapman notch her 16th point, as Dickinson went back up, 42-27 after some free throws. The Yellow Jackets then started to chip away, as Emion Byers (Louisa County, Va./Louisa) knocked down a triple and followed with a layup, putting her squad within eight at 42-34. In the middle of the third, Porter started to takeover, knocking down back-to-back three pointers before notching her 16th point of the game after a layup. Still trailing 48-44, RMC brought it all the way back to a 50-50 tie to close the quarter, thanks to layups from Matheny, Anna Wilcox (Asheville, N.C./A.C. Reynolds) and Emily Olsen (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley).
- At the start of the fourth quarter, Madison Langdon (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) knocked down a pull-up jump shot before another layup from Matheny, helping RMC earn a 54-52 lead. Porter still had it going from the previous quarter, as she dropped in a hook shot before Matheny found Byers on a cutting layup that gave the Yellow Jackets a 60-55 lead. After Randolph-Macon called a timeout with a five-point lead, Porter had it stuck in automatic as she extended the lead to 63-55 after another three ball. Some good defense down the stretch, paired with Miller's 10th rebound of the game, helped Randolph-Macon earn its first win of the season, 68-59.
