#17 Football Falls at #9 JCU in NCAA Second Round

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio. – Four different defensive players recorded career high's in tackles, as the #17 Randolph-Macon football team closed its season in the second round of the NCAA Championships.   

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • John Carroll started the game with the ball and moved the ball down the field for a touchdown. Nick Semptimphelter capped off a 12 play drive with a three yard touchdown run.  
  • Gracyn Ross (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) shifted momentum back to the Yellow Jackets on the ensuing kickoff, returning the ball 86 yards down to the John Carroll 11-yard line. Dante Casciola (Charlotte, N.C./Weddington) ran the ball in from six yards out, but a missed extra point kept the Blue Streaks ahead 7-6 with 5:59 left in the quarter. 
  • Randolph-Macon received a huge pass break-up by Gabe Semidey (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) on third down on the next John Carroll drive to force a punt. 
  • The Blue Streaks started with the ball at the beginning of the second quarter, driving deep into Randolph-Macon territory. Matthew MacNichol (Roanoke Rapids, N.C./Roanoke Rapids) picked off Semptimphelter to give the ball right back to the Lemon and Black with 11:34 left in the first half. 
  • In the middle portion of the second quarter, John Carroll had great field position and cashed in on a Semptimphelter touchdown pass to Nolan Tanner. The Blue Streaks grew their lead to 14-6 with 5:24 left in the half. 
  • Neither team was able to create scoring plays in the final five minutes of the quarter, as we head to the halftime locker room with John Carroll leading 14-6. 
  • John Carroll forced a punt from the Lemon and Black to start the third quarter. Semptimphelter drove the Blue Streaks down the field and connected with Tyren Montgomery for a 12-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 21-6 with 8:31 left in the third. 
  • In the final minute of the third quarter, John Carroll added another touchdown with Semptimphelter connecting with Shane Lindstrom from 24-yards out. The Yellow Jackets trail 28-6 with second left in the third. 
  • John Carroll scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a Cohen Klimak five yard run, ending the scoring with a Blue Streaks 35-6 win. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Quentin Mankin (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinewiddie) recorded a career high in tackles with 12 on the day. Neftali Reyes (Falls Church, Va./Justice) matched his teammate with tackles on the day (12). The senior also ended the game with a career high in tackles. 
  • MacNichol grabbed his first career interception and ended the game with a career high in tackles with 11. 
  • Christian Daniel (Willow Springs, N.C./Overhills) tallied a career high 11 tackles in the contest.
