ASHLAND, Va. - The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory on a late second half goal from Grayson Woods (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park).

The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 1, (RV) Virginia Wesleyan 0
Venue: Ashland, Va. // Randolph-Macon College // Nunnally Field
Records: Randolph-Macon (7-2-2, 1-1-1 ODAC); (RV) Virginia Wesleyan (7-3-1, 1-2-0 ODAC)

How it Happened
  • In the opening minutes of the match, both teams battled back and forth. In the twelfth minute the Marlins had an opportunity to score but Ethan Chenoweth (Newport News, Va./Warwick) made an outstanding save to keep the game level. 10 minutes later RMC responded with a chance of their own on a shot from Charis Tchatat (Doula, Cameroon/Albert Einstein) heading towards the bottom right of the goal, which tested the Virginia Wesleyan keeper.
  • The final 23 minutes of the first half saw RMC on the offensive, recording three shots from Woods, Davian Jackson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and Zach Richards (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown). The Yellow Jackets could not capitalize and went into the break tied 0-0.
  • RMC came out of halftime with more energy. Tyler Oakes (Nottingham, England/Toothill School) and Jayden Walker (Suffolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) both had opportunities to break the deadlock, nine minutes into the half, but their shots landed just wide of the goal. The midfield and backline of the Yellow Jackets continued to hold the Marlins at bay, limiting their offensive opportunities throughout the half. In the 80th minute of the match, Damien Jackson (Newport News, Va./ Menchville) threw the ball into Bryce Kuberek (King George, Va./ King George), who had a chance with a header that hit the crossbar and Woods finished the play for a 1-0 victory.
