ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon women's basketball boosts its win streak to eleven games with a 62-48 win over Hollins, as
McKenzie Matheny (Fairfax Station, Va./West Springfield) recorded a double-double with career highs in points and rebounds.

How it Happened:
- Hollins jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, started by two three balls back-to-back. Bella Bruce (Herndon, Va./Westfield) broke the ice for the Yellow Jackets with two straight driving layups to cut the lead in half at 8-4 with 6:30 remaining in the first period. Grayson Alfano knocked down a three-pointer to give Hollins its biggest lead of the game at 13-4 with 4:51 on the clock. Randolph-Macon was able to cut the deficit down to 14-10 with an Emion Byers (Louisa County, Va./Louisa) driving layup. Hollins knocked down a jumper by Alfano with :44 seconds left to take a 21-14 lead into the second period.
- In the second period, Randolph-Macon constructed a 10-0 run for the first 4:17 minutes. Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) and Matheny led the way with four points each, as the Yellow Jackets took a 24-21 lead with 5:43 left in the first half. Hollins managed to get within one point two different times, until Matheny nailed four straight free throws to give Randolph-Macon a 30-25 lead at the halftime break.
- Hollins managed to keep the game within seven points for the majority of the third period. The Yellow Jackets would never waiver the lead and would push the lead to as many as seven points. Bruce accounted for eight of the 18 total points for Randolph-Macon. Hollins saw Sarah Morales make a layup with 4:21 on the clock to pull within two points, still behind 41-39. In the final four minutes the Lemon and Black scored seven of the final nine overall points to take a 48-41 lead into the final ten minutes. Matheny scored six of the seven points during the final four minute stretch.
- In the fourth period, the Yellow Jackets scored the first six points to push the lead to 54-41 with 5:25 left in the game. Randolph-Macon had its biggest lead of the game at 60-44, as Byers made a jumper with 1:02 on the clock. The Lemon and Black recovered after a slow first period to take the win at home 62-48.
Inside the Numbers:
- Randolph-Macon shot 43.9 percent from the floor, as Hollins knocked down 30.5 percent of its shots.
- The Yellow Jackets outrebounded Hollins 46-to-29 in the entire game.
- Matheny recorded a career high in points and rebounds in her first start of the season. The junior scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, going along with three steals and a blocked shot.
- Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) ended the game with ten points, eight rebounds and two steals.
- Bruce scored 13 points and pulled down three rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
- Smith ended the afternoon with seven points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.
- Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) grabbed eight rebounds to go along with two points off the bench.
