How it Happened
- Meredith opened the match on fire, using five kills to jump out to a 7-1 lead. They kept the pressure on RMC, pushing their lead out to 16-5 before the Yellow Jackets found their footing. A kill by Allison Lach (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) along with three attack errors by Meredith fueled a 4-0 run. The Avenging Angels regained control to extend the lead back out to 21-11. Meredith fought off RMC for the remainder of the set to take the opening frame, 25-17.
- Both teams battled out of the gate in the second set, but Meredith jumped ahead with a 9-5 lead, which they never looked back from. A 4-0 run and a 3-0 run helped Meredith keep control of the set, as RMC couldn't get more than three points in a row as Meredith finished the set on a 3-0 run to win 25-18.
- The third set was the most tightly contested set, as RMC erased a 4-1 deficit in the opening points. Neither team had a lead of more than two points until a service ace by Kaitlyn Kaplan (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) and three kills by three different Jackets helped fuel a 5-0 run and give RMC a four-point lead at 24-20. They would finish off the set on a Meredith setting error to win 25-21 and force a fourth set.
- Like the first two sets, Meredith opened the frame by jumping out to a lead, this time an 8-3 advantage. However, RMC would win six of the next eight points to bring the score within one. After Meredith pushed the lead out to 13-10, RMC went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set. The score was tied 16-16 until the Avenging Angels put the pedal down and won nine of the final 10 points of the set to win 25-17 and win the match in four sets.
