How it Happened
- Defense was strong on both sides in the first frame, as both teams registered just one shot, with the Green Terror getting one on goal, but was saved by Cathryn Short (Henrico, Va./Saint Catherines).
- Similar to the first quarter, the second was evenly matched, as both team had two shots, but McDaniel found the back of the cage just two minutes into the quarter. The Green Terror had five corners in the first half but RMC's defense held strong, keeping the deficit at one heading to halftime.
- The third quarter saw momentum swing over to the Yellow Jackets' side as Llana Thach (Henrico, Va./Glen Allen) got RMC on the board midway through the quarter. Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) then gave RMC the lead with just 21 seconds left in the stanza. RMC took a 2-1 lead to the fourth quarter.
- RMC held strong with the lead throughout much of the fourth frame. With 2:26 to go in the game, Anna Scheir (Fallston, Md./Fallston) put any doubt to rest as she buried a goal to extend the lead to 3-1, which would be the final.
Inside the Numbers
- Llana Thach totaled a career-high three points in the season opener with a goal and an assist.
- Breea Dresler had the game winning goal, her first game-winner of her career.
- Anna Scheir scored the second goal of her career and first since 2022 to pad the lead in the fourth.
- Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate School) grabbed the first point of her career with an assist on Dresler's goal.
- Courtney Moodie (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) also had an assist, dishing a pass to Thach for her goal.
- The Yellow Jackets' defense successfully defended nine corners.
