Game 1
  • Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to give Randolph-Macon a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets saw Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) and Baughan both drew back-to-back walks but could not extend their lead to more than 1-0.
  • In the fourth inning, Olivia Owens (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) and Hannah Martin (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) both started the inning with singles. Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) walked to load up the bases with only one out. Ellie Herndon (Midlothian, Va. Midlothian) grounded out to third base but Owens ended up scoring on the play to double the Randolph-Macon lead. Lanyon doubled home Martin and Talley to break the game open to a 4-0 lead.
  • Ferrum made a couple errors in the fifth inning that ended in the Yellow Jackets platting three more runs. Baughan and Owens both started the inning by reaching by way of errors by the Panthers. Bailey Hairfield (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) was sent in to pinch run for Baughan and scored on another error by Ferrum that allowed Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) to reach base. Martin added the second run of the inning with a sacrifice flyout to right field that brought home Owens. The fourth and final error of the inning by the Panthers saw Talley reach and plate Ellis, as the Yellow Jackets would mount a 7-0 advantage.

Dylan McNerney (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) finished the game off in the seventh inning and notched the game one victory for the Lemon and Black at 7-0.

How It Happened:

Game 2
  • In game two neither team would find their footing in the first two innings. Both teams only combined for three hits in the first two frames and neither team got a runner to cross home going into the third inning. Baughan limited the hard contact from the Panthers to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game early.

Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) broke the Yellow Jacket offense open with a single into left field to score Brown and give Randolph-Macon a 1-0 lead. Owens followed the lead of Davis with a single up the middle to bring home Lanyon and Baughan to triple the advantage for the Lemon and Black. Martin would cap off the five run inning with a two run double off the left field fence to plate Davis and Owens.

The Yellow Jackets totalled eleven hits and saw fifteen different batters come to the plate to break the game wide open.
