36 Points for Pulley Jr. in Overtime Thriller at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) had his second 30-point game in a week as he dropped 36 to help #3 men's hoops down Shenandoah in overtime, 72-69.
Score: Randolph-Macon 72, Shenandoah 69 (OT)
Venue: Crenshaw Gym
Records: Randolph-Macon (21-3, 14-1 ODAC), Shenandoah (16-8, 7-8 ODAC)
How it Happened:
  • The Hornets came to play early, jumping out to a 7-1 lead less than three minutes in. RMC struggled to get going as Shenandoah extended the lead to double-digits at 20-10 with over 10 minutes to go in the first. Four threes by RMC helped the offense get started as the Yellow Jackets went on a 16-4 run to take the lead 26-24. Shenandoah went on a 3-0 run over the final three and a half minutes of the first half to take a 27-26 lead into the break.
  • Shenandoah refused to surrender the lead, even though RMC kept bringing the score within one point. Both teams traded baskets until a pair of free throws by Keishawn Pulley Jr. tied it up at 45. After a 5-0 SU run, RMC answered with a 6-0 run to take the lead by one, 51-50 with 7:30 to go. Down 57-54 with five minutes to go, RMC had a possession with three offensive rebounds that kickstarted a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead. In the final two minutes, Shenandoah went on a 5-0 run, including a layup to tie it with 15 seconds left to force overtime.
  • Overtime was the Keishawn Pulley Jr. show, as he scored all nine points in the frame to take RMC from down two 65-63 to up 72-67 and hit two free throws to clinch the game with 11 seconds left.
Inside the Numbers:

It is his second 30-point performance in the span of a week, after his 32-point game at W&L last Wednesday. He becomes the first RMC player with at least 36 points since Phil Hawley posted 46 against Emory & Henry in 2005.
  • RMC made a living at the free throw line, shooting 19-23 (82.6%) from the stripe. The 19 makes are the most in a game this season for the Yellow Jackets.
