LEXINGTON, Va. -
Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) had a career night for the Yellow Jackets against nationally ranked Washington and Lee, scoring 20 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists. The Generals took the win 75-58 in a tough conference match-up.

How it Happened
- In the first period, Washington and Lee started the game on a 10-2 run, powered by Quinn McGuiness scoring four points. Randolph-Macon struggled during the General run, shooting 1-for-8 in the first four minutes of the game. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 7-2 run, as Smith scored five to pull RMC within three at 12-9 with 4:28 left. The Generals outscored the Lemon and Black 11-2 in the final four minutes to take a 23-11 lead after the first period. Smith led the scoring with seven points in the first ten minutes.
- The second period brought more scoring by Washington and Lee, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 22-12. Smith provided more offensive output for RMC, scoring five more points to bring her total to 12 on 5-for-9 from the field, at the halftime break. Mary Schleusner led WLU in scoring with 18 points and added 16 rebounds in the first half. The Generals took a 45-23 lead into the locker room.
- Randolph-Macon came out of halftime converting on all four of their shots to start, to mount a 9-2 run three minute run. Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton) found her footing offensively, scoring four points during the run, as WLU still led 47-32. Hanna Malik knocked down a three ball, to give the Generals their biggest lead of the second half, 57-36 lead with 3:28 remaining. The end of the third period saw the Generals end with a 65-40 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets outscored Washington and Lee 18-10 in the fourth period. Elkins and Smith combined for 12 points in the period. The Generals would salt out the game and win 75-58.
Inside the Numbers
- Washington and Lee shot 42.2% from the floor, as Randolph-Macon knocked down 31.6% of their shots.
- The Generals outrebounded Yellow Jackets 54-to-45.
- Smith had a career night for the Yellow Jackets. The freshman had career highs in points with 20, rebounds with eight and assists with eight. She also shot 9-for-22 (40.9%) from the field to add to her career evening.
- Elkins finished with 13 points and six rebounds. The junior also added three blocks, two assists and two steals to her stat line.
- Marisa Ziegler (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) finished the game with 11 points and three blocks.
- Emion Byers (Louisa County, Va./Louisa) ended the game with a career high in rebounds with ten.
