Ty Showalter (Charlotte, N.C./Butler) each led the team with 12 points and five rebounds as the seventh-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision at Division I Old Dominion in the Paul Webb Challenge Game that was an exhibition for the Yellow Jackets and a regular-season game for the Monarchs.

How it Happened:
- The Monarchs scored the first 11 points of the game before a layup by junior Liam Joyce (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and a three-pointer by sophomore Charlie Thornton (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) made up a 5-2 spurt as the Yellow Jackets trailed 13-5 with 14 minutes left in the first half. ODU led 25-9 midway through the first period before the RMC defense held the Monarchs without a field goal for 6:30. A three-point play by junior Ollie Jones (Middletown, Del./South Kent Prep) capped an 8-3 run over that time as the Yellow Jackets narrowed the gap to 28-17. A pair of three-pointers by junior Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) ended an 8-2 run to finish the first half as the Monarchs led 34-27 at intermission. Robinson and Joyce paced RMC with six points each in the first half.
- ODU hit two free throws to start the scoring in the second half before layups by freshman Delani Hammonds (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) and sophomore Joe Bachman (Wilmington, N.C./Greensboro Day) cut it to five at 36-31. The Monarchs tallied eight straight points before a bucket by Pulley halted the streak, making it 44-33 with 16:30 remaining in the second period. Triples by Pulley and Showalter sparked an 8-2 spurt as the Yellow Jackets closed to within seven at 48-41 with 12:55 left. After a trey by ODU, Showalter had a triple and a layup sandwiched around a Monarch free throw as RMC closed to within six at 52-46 with 11:50 remaining. A free throw by Robinson made it a five-point game at 52-47 before seven straight points by the Monarchs extended the advantage to 59-47 with eight minutes left. Two foul shots by Showalter and a three-pointer by Johnson made up a 5-2 spurt as RMC trailed 61-52 with 6:50 remaining. ODU would finish with a 10-3 run to make the final 71-55.
Inside the Numbers:
- Showalter and Pulley each tallied a dozen points.
- Pulley, Showalter and Hammonds paced RMC with five rebounds each.
- The Yellow Jackets had 14 assists on 19 field goals. Sophomore Theo Antinori (Asheville, N.C./Rabun Gap) topped RMC with three.
- Joyce and Hammonds each had three steals.

- Proceeds from the game benefitted the Paul and Charlotte Webb Men's Basketball Endowed Scholarship at Old Dominion University. Coach Webb amassed 511 combined victories at the Randolph-Macon and ODU.
